Pine Cliffs

Pine Cliffs, A Luxury Collection Resort, is set in Albufeira overlooking the dramatic cliffs and beaches of the Algarve coastline in southern Portugal.

Winner of Europe’s Leading Family Resort at the World Traveller Awards 2016, Pine Cliffs is one of Europe’s favourite family destinations and home to one of the biggest kids clubs in the region. The resort has also recently undergone a multi-million EURO transformation.

Information & Facts

Two accessible rooms are available at the Pine Cliffs Hotel as well as a two bedroom apartment at Pine Cliffs Ocean Suites. Wheelchairs and other equipment can be arranged with the resort through Concierge.

Activities / Excursions Outside the Resort

Sagres: Located at Europe’s most south-western point. Sagres is known as ‘the end of the earth’. This ancient region saw Greek and Roman settlers and legend has it that Sagres is the place where the sunset made the ancient waters boil. There are nature trails, monuments and its resident crows, which are said to protect the area. Choose from Sagres Surf at 49 EUROS per person or the Sagres Jeep Safari & Surf at 71 EUROS per person, both all day.

Loule Market: This neo-arab palace building is home to a bustling food market and the surrounding cobble stoned streets are packed with traditional shops selling handicrafts and local products. 21 EUROS per person bus excursion.

Best Bits for Kids

Pine Cliffs is all about the kids. The vast 7, 000 sqm Porto Pirata Children’s Village is centred around two life-sized multi-functioning pirate ships – perfect for exploring, as well as a basketball court, kids pool, ‘racetrack’ for toys on wheels, scooters and bikes, a bouncy castle and much more. There’s lots for older kids too, including golf, art and archery.

Best Bits for Parents

Although Pine Cliffs is set over a massive landscape, you don’t feel like you’re on a typical holiday resort complex. Pine Cliffs is beautifully designed among lush pine groves (hence the name), with lots of lovely paths for leisurely buggy strolls and a resort bus (designed to look like steam train) to get you around – your kids will love.

Best Family Beaches

You’ll struggle to find a better family beach than the one that’s on your doorstep. Praia da Falesia is the longest stretch of golden sand in Portugal, in the stunning setting of the sandstone cliffs. The beach has ‘Golden Flag’ status (which means the location is committed to environmental practices and nature conservation). What’s more, there are complementary loungers, parasols and shower facilities, plus the added bonus of the Beach Club restaurant – the perfect place to relax and watch the sun go down.

Digital Detox / Digital Overload

DVD players can be provided on request and there’s free WiFi throughout the resort. Gamers need to head to the Porto Pirata Children’s Village if they need a Wii fix.

Endorsement Quote

For us, Pine Cliffs was all about simplicity. We wanted a short-flight, some late summer sun and plenty of easy-to-get-to facilities. The resort delivered on so many levels. Pine Cliffs peak season is during the July/August summer holidays, so our September trip meant that we’d missed the crowds, but there was still plenty of families with young children (and, of course, golfers who make their pilgrimage to its popular course) around to provide a fun, buzzy, yet relaxing atmosphere.

Family Traveller's Recommended Family Rooms

The Pine Cliffs Residences are particularly suited to family living, spacious and packed with facilities – they’re also close to the Porto Pirata Children’s Village.

Food & Drink

When it comes to food, there’s lots of choice. The resort offers 11 restaurants and lounges. Children’s menus are available with all the usual favourites including pasta, burgers and chicken nuggets and the evening dinner buffets are great for families, too.

O Pescador is seafood lover’s dream. It’s one of the best restaurants on the Algarve. Don’t miss the famous Cataplana – a traditional dish made with clams, chorizo and tomatoes.

Piri Piri Steakhouse, with outdoor seating among the pine groves, is a great choice for families serving prime steaks and a fabulous piri piri chicken.

Yakuza by Oliver serves an eclectic mix of Japanese and Mediterranean dishes in an outdoor garden setting.

Jardim Colonial offers buffet dining for breakfast and dinner – kids will love the wide selection on offer.

O Grill offers relaxed all day dining and show cooking in the evenings.

Zest serves up health-conscious fruit and veg juices and smoothies. Zest also offer a tailored kid’s menu with veggie and gluten and lactose-free options.

Beach Club is right on the beach and perfect for after-swim cocktail or an ice-cream. There’s also salads, snacks and seafood. Don’t miss the guacamole and pardon peppers.

Corda Cafe is great for a pit-stop, serving drinks and quick bites including pizzas and burgers with views of the gardens, pool and golf course.

Pine Cliffs Clubhouse perfect for pre or post golf snacks, light meals and drinks.

Portulano provides cocktails, wine and port.

The Mirador Champagne Bar is a must. It’s perched on the edge of the cliff, with stunning views. It is a child-free zone, but definitely worth booking a babysitter for.

Some of the restaurants and bars close in the Winter months.

There’s also a daily activity programme and both clubs are supervised by experienced, qualified staff. Daily 9am-5pm during peak season and the Christmas holidays.

Pine Cliffs’ dramatic setting is take-your-breath away stunning. The resort is perched on the top of a cliff, surrounded by pine groves growing the biggest pine cones you’ve ever seen (perfect for Christmas crafts and decorations back home!) with views of the golden sandy Praia da Falesia beach. And getting to the beach is one of the best things about this place. There’s a panoramic glass elevator that takes you to ground level followed by a pathway through the orange sandstone cliffs.
